The Way I remember Him

Pep Talk was my Dad’s speciality.

He could talk you into doing anything. You name it.
He was the embodiment of courage.

He could make you enjoy a sour meal by asking you to eat it with an equivalent taste bud.
It was hilarious.
If you mentioned something hurt you, he would ask you to see it as an opportunity to beat life.

My Dad was jovial.
He had an interesting outlook on life.
People who knew him talked about him with so much respect and awe.

My Dad was cool. He excelled in Arts. A jarring memory I have of him is that he bought my first set of novels after he found me reading books made for postgraduate studies in Junior Secondary School Class 1. He saw that spark and curiosity and fueled it.
The rest, they say, is history.

My Dad was a “present” Dad. He lived life.

He wasn’t perfect, but he did the best he could at the time.

Reminiscing about him and seeing his personality through my elder brother’s eyes reminds me that legacy indeed matters.
I am glad that in those years, I met him, had a quality relationship with him and will remain a testament to his legacy.

My Dad, Ukefi Onuoha Ukefi, was a good man.

Happy Father’s day, Dad.
All my love.
